Craft beer community raises funds for bushfire relief

The craft beer community has a track record of working together to help in a crisis, and as bushfires ravage vast parts of Australia, it is no different.

The craft beer community has a track record of working together to help in a crisis, and as bushfires ravage vast parts of Australia, it is no different, with breweries such as Kaiju donating $10,000 to the National Bushfire Disaster Appeal, Tallboy & Moose brewery staff donating all tips to the CFA and NSW Rural Fire Service, and Liquor Barons in Perth’s Bull Creek raffling off highly sought-after beers for the cause. Here are some craft beer bars and events where you can help raise funds for bushfire relief and support the communities and wildlife devastated by this unprecedented disaster.

Bushfire Relief Tinnies & Taps
This Wednesday the Footscray bar is doing a $6 tinnie lucky dip with all the cash going to bushfire funds. There’s some excellent stuff in there, you might even walk away with a tin worth $28! Moon Dog Brewery are also donating a keg of Pale Ale with 100% of the cash going to bushfire funds. And all tips for the month of January will be going to charity, matched dollar for dollar by the bar.

The good folks at CoConspirators have donated a Matriarch keg to help raise money for bushfire relief! This will be tapped on Friday with 100% of money raised going to bushfire relief funds.

CFA + WIRES Fundraiser 
Collingwood’s indie video game and craft beer destination, Bar SK will be raising funds for the CFA and WIRES Wildlife Rescue with an event on Friday from 2pm. Melbourne independent breweries Hop Nation, Fixation, Otherside Brewing and Burnley Brewing have supplied karma kegs and cans and Bar SK will donate all sales to charity.

Hopheads’ two stores in Melbourne’s west are both raising funds to support those in need: “Join us at either one of our stores for our ‘Crush the Keg’ Bushfire Relief Fund. We will have selected kegs on with 100% of the profit going towards the CFA. With everything going on, we want to do our part the only way we know how – by selling beers. So get your beer drinking crew together and come down this Friday to support a very important cause.”

Raise A Glass! – Bushfire Relief Fundraiser
Footscray bar Mr West is collaborating with suppliers and producers to host a fundraising event on Saturday January 18 from 1pm-1am to raise money to support firefighters and all those affected by the devastating bushfires. They are putting together a special menu of delicious beer, cider, wine & spirits provided by Hop Nation, Tallboy and Moose, Hills Cider, Collective Arts Distilling, Boomtown Winemakers Cooperative, Xavier Goodridge, Puncheon Bottles, Yugen Wines, Savant Spirits, Vanguard Luxury Brands/ The Gospel Whiskey, Mextrade Australia with all proceeds to be donated to the CFA and Wildlife Victoria. Mr West staff will also be happily giving up their tips and a donation jar will be on the bar for any further donations.

Drink Up – A Fire Benefit Fundraiser
This city bar is raising funds for Red Cross Australia on Sunday January 19 from 3pm-8pm. “In order to help those affected by the fires, five of the rowdiest and loudiest bars in Melbourne have come together for Drink Up, with Heartbreaker, Black Pearl, Ends & Means, The Rum Diary Bar and Hats & Tatts jumping behind the stick at The Mill House. Each bar will be serving their signature cocktail for $16, boilermakers for $16, beers and wines for $9. This is our chance to help those who have been left with nothing. Rebuilding our communities will take months even years and this is just the start of the journey to healing the devastation of what most people can only imagine. Please come down and spend time with friends and loved ones and enjoy our time together while doing some good for others who so desperately need our help right now.”

To support those affected by the current fires across Australia, Blackthorn is hosting a benefit gig at The Rifle Brigade with Mick Thomas (WPA), Mast Gully Fellers, Four Lions Duo, Band of Cloud Duo & Oombah Duo. All funds will be donated to the Victoria Bushfire Disaster Appeal & Warriors 4 Wildlife. Craft breweries Kaiju!, Holgate Brewhouse, and Brookes Brewing have also donated kegs to the event with funds going to the appeal.
